Taking the next step in theatre the Creative Performance Group is for our older and more experienced young people who are ready to explore theatre in greater depth.
Running from September to December, the group works together towards an original Christmas production, taking on responsibilities both on stage and behind the scenes.
Creative Performance Group gives our young people the opportunity to experience more of what goes into creating a complete theatre production.
Alongside developing their acting and performance skills, participants get involved in the creative and backstage process — exploring ideas for sets, props and costumes and helping to shape how the final production comes together.
Everyone still has an onstage role, but they're also encouraged to look beyond performing and understand the many different people, skills and decisions needed to bring a show to life.

Creating our Christmas production
From September to December, Creative Performance Group works towards an original Christmas production.
Over the term, the group develops their characters, rehearses the production and gets involved in the creative decisions happening around the show.
As some of our most experienced young people, they're encouraged to contribute their own ideas, take greater responsibility and work together as a company to bring the production from page to stage.
The result is a full Christmas production where their work can be seen both on stage and behind the scenes.

GROWING WITH STAGED
Creative Performance Group is usually the next step for young people who have grown through our regular groups and are ready for a new challenge.
Many of our members progress into the group from Dance & Drama as they get older and gain more experience.
There isn't a set point when someone has to move up. We look at the individual young person, their age, confidence and experience and help them progress when the time is right.
This allows young people to keep developing with Staged rather than simply reaching the end of a group because of their age.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CHRISTMAS?
From January, our older young people may have the opportunity to progress into Theatre for the Ages — an in-depth production project where they work together as a theatre company, taking on real performance, creative, technical and production responsibilities.
Theatre for the Ages is dependent on external funding, so the programme available from January can vary from year to year.
